Margaret Louise Halloway
August 14, 1942 – March 3, 2025
“In every room she entered, a story followed.”
It is with deep love and sorrow that we announce the passing of Margaret Louise Holloway, aged 82, of Brattleboro, Vermont. Margaret passed peacefully on March 3, 2025, surrounded by her family, her favorite music, and the soft hum of spring returning to the hills she loved.
Margaret was a lifelong storyteller—not with a pen or a spotlight, but with the quiet grace of someone who listened deeply and lived fully. A retired schoolteacher, dedicated mother, and community volunteer, Margaret believed that every life was a mosaic of moments, and she cherished every one of hers.
Born in 1942 to Harold and Louise Jensen in Northampton, Massachusetts, Margaret grew up with a book in one hand and a pie tin in the other. She moved to Vermont in her twenties to teach English and raise her family, instilling in her children the importance of kindness, curiosity, and speaking from the heart.
She is survived by her two children, Emily Carter and Thomas Holloway; her beloved grandchildren, Max, Jonas, and Ella; and her younger brother, Franklin Jensen. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Holloway, with whom she shared 42 years of marriage and a well-worn Scrabble board.
In her final years, Margaret faced illness with courage and clarity. Knowing her voice might fade before her story did, she worked with Legacy Alive to create a living record of her memories, wisdom, and love. Through that film, she leaves behind not just an obituary—but a legacy.
A celebration of Margaret’s life will be held on Saturday, March 15 at 11 a.m. at the Brattleboro Public Library’s Garden Room. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Reading Is Fundamental or your local community food shelf—two causes Margaret championed quietly and faithfully for decades.
